The Cosas Story So Far...

IMG_6596.jpg

It all began in 2019 in Madrid, where I lived in a tiny flat with my boyfriend; with a desk I found on the street (said boyfriend was instructed to lug the desk across the neighbourhood and up several flights of stairs). This is where I started Cosas, first just a hobby, making bespoke clothing and accessories for friends and family.

Early Days

I have always loved to sew. As a child I would spend hours making clothes for my Barbies, as a teenager I started customising and altering charity shop clothes, as an Art student I made fancy dress outfits for parties and then in my early twenties I took sewing lessons, started exploring my nan's vintage Burda sewing magazines and making my own clothes regularly.

Then I started experimenting with designing my own patterns and Cosas was born. In the early days I loved buying fabrics from Madrid's many fabric stores and haberdasheries (if you ever go there, trust me it's worth bringing an empty suitcase!) to make my  summer dresses, skirts, floaty trousers, etc. however it wasn't long until I realised I wanted to go down the route of using only second hand and vintage fabrics.

Each Piece Tells a Story

The aim of Cosas is to transform the old into new; to give a new life and purpose to old and forgotten textiles. Sourcing these materials is half the fun! I regularly scour charity shops, car boot sales and secondhand online selling platforms for hidden treasures such as curtains, bedding, patchwork quilts, blankets, tea towels and tablecloths. I especially look out for bold patterns and textures - I want each piece to be unique.

Cosas clothing doesn't chase trends — I believe in making pieces you’ll love to wear and live in. Because the most sustainable item of clothing is the piece that you reach for regularly. The one that fits you perfectly and makes you feel great.

Cosas started small — really small — but always with intention. From a dinky little flat in Madrid, to now my studio in Nottingham; every creation is made with sustainability, comfort and uniqueness in mind.

Finding my Balance

Life changed in the most wonderful way when I became a mother in 2021. But the juggle was real! I had my working life as a teacher, my Cosas-sewing life, being a partner to my lovely husband (yes, the desk carrier got un upgrade!) ... and then the added all-consuming mum life to balance between. Cosas had to take a backseat for a few years while my boys were babies, but now they are 2 and 5 years old and I feel like I am beginning to breathe again. Sewing has always been my passion and my way of escaping the world, so I really missed my creative outlet and having something to call my own. I now split my week up between teaching, sewing and looking after my toddler. I'm spinning lots of plates, but I love it!

Markets, Community & Connection

In 2025 I took a real leap of faith with Cosas — I started selling at markets. It became one of my most cherished experiences: meeting you, hearing your stories, seeing what drew you to buying my pieces. Markets reminded me that Cosas isn’t just about the work I make — it’s about the local community and connecting with like-minded people. Your conversations, your smiles, your word-of-mouth recommendations, your honest feedback and ideas — it shaped what Cosas is today.

Building my Studio

Another recent change for Cosas: I now have a fantastic custom-built sewing studio in my back garden! No more sewing on an old desk found on the street; I have the perfect bright space with shelves stacked high with beautiful fabrics and all the tools and space to be creative.

Thank You for Being Here
